There are many different steps we go through when making a decision, be it big or small. Our first reaction is usually “I am going to shop around, find the best price or product,” things along those lines. What about your time? This is the most valuable thing you have, which is usually very limited, and once it is gone you cannot get it back.
Something that can help you with saving your time and getting the most out of your purchase, is an Up Front Contract. This is not a piece of paper with crazy words you have never heard of before or can hardly pronounce.
An Up Front Contract sets the guidelines to what you are looking to happen during your meeting with someone, what they want to get through, and where you want to be at the end of the conversation. This step is so crucial, and with it, you and the people you are working with are able to make the most out of your time and have a clear future to what while happen after the meeting.
Next time you are put in a situation, may it be a meeting at work, a new client or trying to buy something yourself try, to remember the Up Front Contract and ask yourself these questions: What do I want to cover during this time? What do we want to be accomplished at the end of the meeting? Where will we go from here?
This may seem like a small step but it can make all the difference when it comes to a big decision.
